About Oral-Conscious Sedation
At Rock Canyon Dental Care in Highlands Ranch, CO, our dentists administer oral-conscious sedation to patients during certain invasive procedures or for patients who have anxiety or fear about visiting the dentist. Oral-conscious sedation is taken as a pill about an hour prior to the dental procedure. The pill can be made for a mild or medium sedation, depending on the patient’s needs and the procedure being performed. Mild sedation will make the patient feel drowsy, but they do not usually fall asleep. Moderate sedation is used during more invasive procedures to make the patient feel drowsy and the patient may fall into a light sleep. While other sedation methods can be fine-tuned during the procedure, the level of oral-conscious sedation can’t be changed.
"We recently moved to Denver from Texas and were looking to get re-established with a dentist. I heard great things about Dr. Le and decided to give his office a try. It was a bit of a drive from Denver Metro area, but it was definitely worth the drive. Dr. Le and his staff were incredible and did a very thorough job. So happy to have found my new dentist."- D.N. / Google / Jul 19, 2019
"This dental practice is fantastic and they all are awesome!!! "I love going to the dentist said no one ever" but I have lived in the Ranch since 98' and trust me when I say I have been through a few (good, bad or indifferent)! If you want to feel at ease, someone to listen without judgment and be on the same page as yourself, then Rock Canyon is for you! Just walking in the door is comfortable from the get go, Dr. Le is a hoot! Also you just feel like you're part of the neighborhood..."- S.N. / Google / Jun 13, 2019
"I’ve been coming to this location for a couple years now. It’s not close to me so I go out of my way (45 minutes) to come here. The staff is always friendly and always helpful. I’ve done standard dental cleanings, wisdom tooth extraction and most recently decided on a night guard through them. I feel like I get up to date information on my oral care & health, every time I go in there. And while I’ve switched dental plans three times, they have accepted all three so far! Highly recommended!"- J.R. / Google / Jun 09, 2019

I had the best dental experience, highly recommend you go to this place if you’re looking for a new dentist!!!"- C.N. / Google / May 16, 2019

What to Expect
Our dentists will meet with the patient to thoroughly review their allergies, medications, and medical history to determine if the patient qualifies for oral-conscious sedation. If oral-conscious sedation is chosen, our dentists will prescribe the pill for the patient to take about one hour before their procedure. The patient will not be able to drive to or from their appointment, since the patient will be conscious, but in a tranquil state. During the procedure, the patient will be able to hear our dentists and to follow any instructions. Some patients may fall asleep during the procedure, but they can be easily waked when the procedure is finished.
Patients cannot drive for at least 24 hours after taking oral-conscious sedation, so our dentists recommend that each patient have a responsible adult to take them home after their scheduled procedure. While the patient usually remains conscious during the procedure, the sedation sometimes causes short-term memory loss. Oral-conscious sedation is usually safe, but some patients may experience temporary nausea. Any unusual side effects or lasting pain should be reported to our dentists at Rock Canyon Dental Care immediately.
Depending on the patient’s insurance coverage, some or all of the cost of oral-conscious sedation may be covered. Rock Canyon Dental Care will communicate with the patient’s insurance company before the procedure to determine their coverage and out-of-pocket cost. Our dentists at Rock Canyon Dental Care accept many forms of payment and we can connect patients to medical financing plans.
